This past Tuesday was a really cool day. A friend bought 17 2.5 ton military trucks up in Grayling. So I volunteer to go up there with him and 6 other guys. If you ever bought something from a military auction ya know how bad things can go. They did! Lot numbers and truck serial numbers and even photos did not match up. Some trucks with a winch were then listed as ones w/o a winch. Most trucks were m35's but there was one truck that was like a cement mixer truck which was also listed as an m35 and some of the people who were coming in to pickup their trucks were from out of state. OUCH! We found our 17 trucks and there were a few that we thought were ours that another guy thought was his. After some debating and phone calling it was all straightened out and my friend got all the trucks he thought he was to get.
We then made 3 trips down to an orchard just about 6 miles away to get the trucks off the Grayling site and onto private property. We then got the trucks ready and locked up all remaining trucks for the next group drive down. We did about 55 mph down 75 with our ear protection in place. These trucks are NOT sound insulated in the least. Our first rest stop we found out one of the trucks had really hot hubs, so we had to cut down on speed. From there on out it was 45-50 all the way. Needless to say it was really fun even going that slow. We had many ppl waving and such, which was pretty cool. I believe they thought we were the military and were just rooting us on in our 8 truck caravan. We finally hit Montrose and parked the trucks and locked em up and did a quick write up as to any problems we had with the truck we drove. I then headed back to Lansing and got home about 12:30am. I got a shower and hit the hay and got up about 5 hrs later to then drive down to Chicago. Strangly enough I wasn't tired. All in all a great time and I would be more then happy to do it again, and I just might get to. Joel..almost fully rested
